The Bottom Line: Department of Business and Professional Regulation
Dear friends,
The busiest shopping period of the year is here, and many of us will likely partake in some of the deals advertised during major shopping days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Big box retail shops and e-commerce stores will have a flood of discounts for holiday shoppers who make purchases from their business on these days, but there’s another annual shopping tradition that I firmly believe in, and that’s Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday, celebrated on November 29, 2014 this year, is a day for us to celebrate and help support our small businesses statewide. This includes our locally owned and operated retail stores, the ‘Mom and Pop’ restaurant down the street and any other small shops in your area. As the regulator for several businesses and professions in Florida, I encourage everyone to take part in Small Business Saturday this year and give a fair chance to the local businesses in your area.
Following the Thanksgiving Holiday, Small Business Saturday is a day to shop small and support your neighborhood friends and families. By choosing to shop local on Small Business Saturday, you’re helping your community’s economy and supporting your neighbors’ hopes of achieving their version of the American Dream.
Sincerely,
Ken Lawson, Secretary
Department of Business and Professional Regulation
