Lilies might brighten your home, but for cats they can be deadly: true lilies—Easter, tiger, Asiatic, Oriental, and even daylilies—contain toxins in their petals, leaves, pollen and vase water that can trigger acute kidney failure with just a few licks or sips. If you suspect your cat has nibbled any part of a lily, call pet poison control immediately—early treatment is vital. Luckily, there are plenty of beautiful, cat-safe alternatives: consider Spathiphyllum (peace lily), Alstroemeria (Peruvian lily), Zantedeschia (calla lily), or classic cut flowers like roses, tulips, sunflowers, carnations, or daffodils instead.
